Chan, Normand & Tathum Swim Team

Erin, Kirstin and Reidun were members of the bronze medal Canadian Synchro Team at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games.  Their memorable routine highlighted eleven Olympic sports.  Originally, Erin, Kirstin and Reidun trained in Alberta and then moved in 1998 to train at the Center of Excellence in Etobicoke, Ontario.  They won a bronze medal at the 1999 World Cup and a gold medal at the 1999 Pan American Games in the team event.  Following a post Olympic tour in 2000, Kirstin and Reidun retired from the sport.  Erin competed at the 2004 Olympic Games and then retired.


Mike Rogers

Mike Rogers was a centerman in the NHL for seven seasons, beginning with the Hartford Whalers expansion team in 1979/80.  He was traded to the New York Rangers in 1981/82.  He earned the distinction of being one of only four players to achieve 100 points in his first three seasons in the NHL; the others were Wayne Gretzky, Peter Stastny, and Mario Lemieux.  Mike scored 519 points in 484 regular-season NHL games.  Mike played in the World Hockey Association for five seasons starting in 1974/75.  He led the Edmonton Oilers rookies in goals and points, and was named the WHA’s Most Gentlemanly Player


Robert Davies

Robert ‘Bob’ Davies Basketball Builder, Edmonton 2018 Pioneer Award Robert ‘Bob’ Davies participation with basketball began in the late 1940s and lasted for more than 60 years. He coached, refereed, managed, established, and promoted basketball in the Edmonton leagues, Albertan Associations, and Canadian Associations. He was on the executive of both the Edmonton and Alberta Basketball Associations. He coached youth teams at the community, junior, and senior high school levels and at national competitions. He also organized adult leagues and tournaments and established formal playoffs and interleague play throughout Alberta.


Darlene Currie

Darlene competed in 3 Pan Am Games 1959, 1963, and 1967 including a bronze medal in 1967. She led Team BC to gold in the first Canada Winter Games in 1967. She was inducted into the Canada Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Basketball B.C Hall of Fame in 2004. Won Gold in the 2005 World Masters Games with the Vancouver Retreads Basketball team in the +65-category inspiring the film “The Oldest Basketball Team in the World”.


Donald Buchignani

Donald has spent more than 45 years supporting youth in sport, especially in the sport of swimming. He has served as a team manager for Swim Alberta and Swim Canada. He has served on the Board of directors for Swim Alberta, Swim Canada, University of Calgary Swim Club. Lindsay Park Sports Centre and CODA. He has held leadership positions at multiple international swimming events including Team Manager for Canada’s Olympic Swim Team at the 1992 Barcellona and 2008 Beijing Games.


Jackie Rae Greening

Jackie has played major roles in Provincial, National and World Championships curling events including the 2005 Tim Hortons Brier, 2007 Ford Worlds Men’s Curling Championships, 2009 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, and the 2017 Alberta Provincial Ladies Scott Tournament of Hearts. She carries on promoting and building the sport with her broadcasting experience such as doing the commentating for the 2017 Junior World Curling Championship held in Pyeongchang, South Korea.


George Kingston

George started his coaching career at the University of Calgary where he succeeded in bringing home 5 Western University championships during 16 seasons. He coached the Canadian Men’s Team to a gold medal in the 1988 Spengler Cup. Kingston was head coach of Team Canada in 1996 winning Canada’s first gold medal in 33 years at the IIHF World Hockey Championships in Italy. Recipient of the 2019 Order of Hockey Canada and inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame in 2016.


David Legg

David is a professor at Mount Royal University in the department of Health and Physical Education. He has worked with Wheelchair Sport Alberta, the Canadian Paralympic Committee, and the International Paralympic Committee. He helped found the Children’s Adapted Physical Activity (CAPA)program, a play-based physical activity program for children with disabilities at Mount Royal University in Calgary. Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Calgary Adapted Hub Powered by Jumpstart and President of the International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity


Dale O'Brien

Twin brothers, Dale and Darryl, from Coronation, Alberta, founders of the Edmonton Whitewater Paddling (EWP) club, established in 1973. They are responsible for the creation of Canada Canoe Polo, the national sporting body for the sport. Their contribution to the canoe and kayak community has been instrumental in growing the sport nationwide.
