Keltie Duggan
Swimming Athlete - Inducted 2017
Keltie Duggan started swimming with the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club in 1978. At fifteen years old, she qualified for her first Nationals in 1985. She won gold and silver medals at the 1987 Pan American Games. At the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, she won a bronze medal in the 4x100m Medley Relay. Keltie won a gold medal at the 1989 Pan Pacific Aquatic Championships, as well as, gold and bronze medals at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. She ended her career as a three-time National Champion and six-time CIAU Champion. In 1990, she set a Canadian record for the 50m Breaststroke, which held for eighteen years.
Keltie’s National Team career spanned from 1987 to 1993. She qualified for the team at her first International 'B' competition in 1987. Her continued growth and success was when she was named Swimming Canada's Athlete of the Year in 1989/90. At the 1991 World Aquatic Championships held in Perth, Australia, she finished fifth in the 100m Breaststroke.
Keltie was also an outstanding student and athlete at the University of Alberta. She was the university’s Female Athlete of the Year (Bakewell Trophy) in 1989/90, awarded the Nick Carter Trophy MVP in 1992-93, and was named swim team Captain in 1993/94. She earned numerous scholarships, including the Dr. Randy Gregg Athletics Award in 1994. Keltie received five consecutive All Canadian Honours and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction.
Keltie moved to Calgary and pursued her dream of becoming a doctor. Her participation has evolved from swimming to include coaching for the University of Calgary Swim Club from 1994 to 1996 and becoming a Swim Alberta official.
Keltie Duggan was inducted into the Swimming Canada Circle of Excellence in 2003 and the Swim Alberta Hall of Fame in 2014.
