Fastball Athlete - Inducted 2002
A perennial All-Star first baseman and batting champion wherever he played, Barry House began his assault on opposing pitchers as a member of the Lethbridge York Hotel Jr. Men's Fastball Team in 1971. From Lethbridge, Barry moved up to the Western Major Fastball League with the Calgary Braves, winning the league batting title and All-Star first baseman in only his second season.
Barry also spent five years in Red Deer with the Corvets and Yamahas of the Western Major Fastball League, collecting two league batting titles and three All-Star first baseman awards. Then, as a member of the Calgary Alberta Brake & Clutch, Barry would win the Canadian Championships in 1985 and 1986.
In 1985, Alberta Brake & Clutch finished third at the World Championships, and Barry House was named All-Star first baseman, an award that he would duplicate again in 1986. Barry House then switched sides of the diamond to become an all-star third baseman while continuing his threat at the plate. He would again become a Canadian Champion as a member of the 1988 Calgary Otto Mobiles while receiving the award as All-Star third baseman.
Barry continued to play into his forties with Sr. Men's and Masters teams. Barry's intense leadership, fielding prowess, and perennial long ball threat made him one of the most feared and respected players in the game, not only in Alberta but throughout North America.
