Johnny Longden

Johnny Longden's rise to fame began with his first win at a recognized track in the United States in 1928. In 1938, he booted home 236 wins to gain the crown as the World's Leading Jockey. This was the first of three such championships. He was the first North American jockey to win 4000 races. He went on to break the world mark for the most career wins in 1956. When Johnny Longden retired in 1966, he had ridden to 6032 victories, a record at the time, and his horses had collected $24,665,800 in purses. Johnny Longden has also been inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame and both the Canadian and United States Racing Halls of Fame.

Johnny passed away February 14, 2003
