Harold Mandeville
Rodeo Athlete - Inducted 1992
Harold Mandeville is one of only three cowboys to win titles at the Canadian Championships in three different events -- bareback riding, calf roping, and steer wrestling. He is a five-time Canadian Steer Wrestling Champion and a winner of Canadian titles in calf roping and bareback riding. In 1951 at the Calgary Stampede, he placed high enough in the steer decorating, calf roping and bareback riding events to lasso the All-Round Canadian title. Six years later, he also won the steer decorating event. Harold Mandeville won his first championship in 1946 and his last championship in 1966, an accomplishment which has never been duplicated. At the age of forty, he became the oldest cowboy to claim the Canadian All-Round Championship, a record that remains high in the saddle. He has won numerous titles from the Southern Alberta Rodeo Association. He was honoured as Canadian Cowboy of the Year in 1972. Harold Mandeville is a member of the Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame.
