Scotty “Bulldog” Olson

Scotty “Bulldog” Olson boxed in the Light Flyweight division at the 1986, XIII Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh Scotland. Eighteen years old and 5’1” tall, he won the gold medal match, helping to lead the Canadian team to six gold medals in boxing. Scotty was the first Canadian to win a medal of any colour in the 48kg division. He also won six consecutive Canadian Amateur Championships and international tournaments in Bulgaria, Indonesia, and Greece. At the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, he reached the quarterfinals.
Scotty turned professional in 1990 with Top Rank Inc. in Las Vegas, Nevada. With knockout power in both hands and an aggressive, crowd-pleasing style, he was nicknamed “Bulldog”. He was voted the “Las Vegas Fighter of the Year” in 1991. In 1992, he won the USBA/IBF Flyweight title. In 1994, he won the International Boxing Organization World Flyweight Championship and defended it successfully five times until 1998.
Scotty “Bulldog” Olson retired in 2002 with a 34-4-2 (25 KO’s) record. Throughout his career, he distinguished himself by his conduct, sportsmanship, and his integrity. He was a great ambassador and representative of Edmonton, Alberta, and Canada.
