Brian Pockar
Figure Skating Athlete - Inducted 1989
Brian Pockar achieved success at the Provincial, National, and International levels as a figure skater. He won a gold medal in figures at the 1976 Junior World Figure Skating Championships; a bronze at the 1981 World Senior Men's Figure Skating Championships; and, a bronze at the 1982 World Figure Skating Championships. He was the Senior Men's Canadian Champion three times. He also skated competitively at the 1980 Olympic Games. Brian Pockar was the first figure skater to successfully complete a triple one-foot salchow/double flip combination jump at the World Championships. This outstanding skater was recognized as one of Canada's best athletes when he was presented with five Alberta Achievement Awards and in 1982 was presented with the Government of Canada Sports Excellence Award.
