Winnie Gallen Reid

Winnie Gallen Reid is described as an outstanding athlete in the sports of softball, basketball, and curling. She pitched softball for the Muttart Pats and the Army and Navy Pats during the 1930s and early 1940s. After having pitched for several championship teams, she joined the Chicago Parichys Girls' Softball Team in the All-American Pro League. Winnie Gallen Reid played basketball for the Gradettes prior to playing for the famous Edmonton Commercial Grads for four years. After the Grads disbanded in 1940, she was captain of the Comets when they won the Provincial and Western Canada titles. In 1971, Winnie Gallen Reid skipped her curling team to the Ladies Senior Provincial Championship win which was as far as they could proceed since there was no sponsorship beyond the provincial level then.

Winnie passed away on February 5, 1996.
