Eric Rogers
Eric Rogers’ goal was to make it to the Canadian Olympic weightlifting team, and in 1980 his dream came true. However, his hopes to etch his name in Olympic history books were dashed when Canada chose to boycott the Moscow Games. He was successful in international competition winning two silver medals in the 75kg category at the 1979 Pan American Games. His winning ways continued in 1981 when he won gold at the Silver Dragon International meet in Wales. Eric Rogers has placed first or second in six national championships and first in three Western Canadian meets. He won eight Alberta championships, consecutively from 1976 to 1983. He lays claim to the Best Lifter Trophy for every provincial meet he entered. Throughout his career, he had great success in both the 67.5 and 75kg weight divisions, establishing a remarkable thirty provincial records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total categories.
