Mark Roy

Rodeo Athlete - Inducted 2001

Mark Roy, a Dalemead, Alberta cowboy, has been a member of the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association since 1981 but saved his best for the 1990s. The world-class steer wrestler has been a Canadian Finals Rodeo qualifier 14 times, winning the Canadian title in 1991 and 1992. 1992 was an unbeatable year for Mark Roy as he was not only the Canadian Steer Wrestling Champion, but he also won the National Finals Rodeo Steer Wrestling Average and was the World Champion Steer Wrestler. Mark Roy’s world championship marked the first time a Canadian cowboy won the World Steer Wrestling Championship. Mark continued his domination of the sport in the 1990s as he was the Brahma Boot Tour Steer Wrestling Champion in 1994, and in 1996 was both the Canadian Finals Rodeo Average Champion and the National Finals Rodeo Average Champion in Steer Wrestling.
