Bruno Comis

Speed Skating Builder - Inducted 1978

Bruno Comis has been involved in speed skating since 1956 and still consults to his former club in Red Deer. Two of his skaters have represented Canada at the Olympics. From 1956 to 1968, he coached the Red Deer Lions Speed Skating Club, building a speed skating powerhouse that won many provincial, regional and national medals. Bruno Comis was instrumental in organizing the Northwest International Meet which is now one of the largest Canadian competitions. The City of Red Deer selected him as their Sportsman of the Year in 1960 and their Coach of the Year in 1964. Bruno Comis moved to Calgary in 1968 where he is active in the Calgary Speed Skating Club.
