Larry Wood

Larry Wood began his media career in 1957 with the Medicine Hat News as a news reporter. In 1958, he became the one staff member to cover sport in Medicine Hat. In January 1960, Larry Wood started working for the Calgary Herald and was at the news desk for one year. In 1961, Larry replaced Johnny Hopkins and covered the curling and baseball beat for 18 years. He covered every World Curling Championship throughout this time for a total of 16 years. In 1978, Larry Wood changed positions at the Calgary Herald and became a sports columnist, a position he still holds today.
Throughout his career, Larry Wood has covered a number of sporting events including three Summer Olympics, three Winter Olympics, two Commonwealth Games, many World Championships, Stanley Cups, Grey Cups, and Canadian Opens. In 1980, he was identified as the first staff journalist to cover a World Cup Ski Race in Garmish, Germany, in which a Canadian (Steve Podborski) won the event. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Larry Wood also announced curling and golf on CFAC Radio.
After Induction
2005 - Larry Wood was inducted into the Southern Alberta Curling Association Hall of Fame.
Larry passed away on February 15, 2022.
