William “Bill” Gilhespy

William “Bill” Gilhespy has been involved in soccer at the local, provincial, national and international levels for over 40 years. At a national level, he has been the Vice President of the Canadian Soccer Association, Director of the Canadian Soccer League, Chairman of the National Teams Committee, and currently the Executive Director of the Canadian Soccer Association Alumni. He has held similar positions at the Provincial and local levels as well. Bill has been a member of the Player Status commission of the Confederation of North America, Central America, and Caribbean Football Associations since 1992. Bill has also represented Canada as Head of Delegation in many countries at International soccer competitions.

Bill's accomplishments and his efforts in promoting the game of soccer at the Provincial and National levels earned him Life Membership in both the Alberta and Canadian Soccer Associations. He was directly involved with spearheading the growth and development of Canada's three most modern four-field indoor soccer centres, as well as an eight-field outdoor complex complete with a building containing dressing rooms, showers, lounge and concession areas.

Bill Gilhespy's strong leadership skills, knowledge of the sport and his understanding of the people involved, vision and tireless volunteer efforts has led soccer to become one of the strongest, most creative, and unique sports organizations not only in Edmonton but throughout Canada. Bill was inducted into the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.
