James Gregory “Greg” Greenough

Greg Greenough's involvement with sports began in his youth with an active and successful hockey career, culminating with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League and then the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. After taking up residency in Alberta, Greg Greenough's involvement in the sport took on a facilitating role - one of providing opportunities for others to develop and excel. Greg was instrumental in the development of Alberta's, and Canada's, first indoor track and field/multi-sport facility – Edmonton’s Kinsmen Field House. Greg also served for nine years on the Board of Directors for the community-owned Edmonton Eskimo Football Club.
Greg Greenough's involvement in the international sporting scene began in 1978 as Chairman of the Venue Division and Director of the Commonwealth Games Federation and has continued ever since. His role in international sports has seen him involved in a number of different sports. In the Equestrian world, he has held many positions including President of the Alberta Equestrian Federation, Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee of the International Equestrian Federation, and for seven years as President of the Canadian Equestrian Federation.
He currently is Treasurer of the Canadian Olympic Association and Chair of the National Sports Centre Calgary. International Games involvement includes executive committee positions on the Winnipeg Pan American Games 1999 and the 2010 Vancouver/Whistler Olympic Games Bid committees.

2005 - Alberta Centennial Salute for Sport and Recreation Award/Medal
2008 - Greg received the “Distinguished Service Award from the Chartered Accountants of Alberta for his contribution to the Canadian Olympic Committee where he has been a board member for more than 20 years.
Greg passed away on February 27, 2022.
