Gilbert Hirst

Gilbert Hirst's shooting has mainly been in fullbore rifle competitions at distances from 200 to 1000 yards. In 1930, he won all the Cadet competitions and was named the top cadet rifle shot in Canada. In 1931, Gilbert Hirst was awarded the Great Britain silver medal as the top cadet shot in the British Empire at the King's Trophy Competition. He was an executive member of the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association from 1948 to 1951 and was its president from 1956 to 1978. In 1952, he was elected to the Council of the Dominion of Canada Rifle Association and served as its vice president for 22 years. He served as coach-manager of the Alberta Rifle Team at the 1973 Canada Summer Games. In 1971, Gilbert Hirst won the bronze cross for highest possible score in the Wimbledon Match at Brisley. He was appointed Chairman of the Fullbore Rifle Jury for the XI Commonwealth Games.
