Paul Hortie initiated a strong boxing program for young amateur boxers in 1955. He formed the Nonsuch Boxing Club and the Cougar Boxing Club which is now known as the Edmonton Boys' and Girls' Club Cougar Boxing Program. In 1975, he was hired as Canada's National Boxing Coach for boxers under 20 years of age. He coached the Canadian team for the 1976 and 1988 Olympics; 1984 Canada vs United States Tournament; 1985 Albena Cup; 1986 Commonwealth Games; 1986 Felix Stam Tournament; 1987 Acropolis Cup; 1987 North American Championship; and the 1988 Canada Cup International. He has held executive positions for the Canadian Amateur Boxing Association, the Alberta Amateur Boxing Association, and the Edmonton Boys' Cougar Boxing Program. Paul Hortie received numerous awards for his outstanding service in boxing. Paul Passed away on September 5th, 1990.
