William Waugh "Bill" Manson

Bill Manson was a founding executive member of the Edmonton Amateur Wrestling Association (1955) and founding chairman of the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Referees Association. Bill was a five-time Alberta Wrestling Champion who started coaching in 1956 and officiated for many years at the high school level. From 1966 to 1973, he refereed at the Canada Winter Games, Canadian Championships, Junior World's, World Championships, 1972 Munich Summer Olympic Games, and the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh – where he was named Outstanding Official. He was team manager of the Canadian team at the 1969 World Championships in Argentina and a member of the successful bid group for the 1970 World Championships held in Edmonton. William Waugh Manson was the first Canadian to referee Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling in the Olympic Games.
