David Williams

Dave has worked tirelessly for many years as a builder of sports in Alberta.  He was an active board member with the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum for nine years and was committed to having a permanent building where they could honor Alberta’s excellence in sport and preserve its stories and artifacts.

 

Dave was also active in Edmonton’s sporting community.  He was a founder of the Edmonton Gold Bar Lacrosse Club and the Edmonton St. Mikes Hockey School.  He was instrumental in establishing the Edmonton Eskimo Green and Gold Club which provided funding for the Edmonton Junior Huskies, Junior Wildcats and the U of A Golden Bears.  Dave played a key role in the successful bidding for and hosting of the 1984 Grey Cup.  In 1985, he lent his talents to the appearance of the Flying Fathers.  While with Economic Development Edmonton, Dave provided support for the World Figure Skating Championship and the 1995 NHL Hockey draft.

 

The DAVE WILLIAMS LEADERSHIP AWARD was established in recognition of what Dave has modeled thought out his life… he is a devoted person who has made an impact in his community.

After Induction

“Dave” was diagnosed with ALS in 2007.  He joined the ALS Society Board of Directors that year.  He served on their board for twelve years and raised awareness to make the lives of those touched by this disease more manageable.
