David Legg

Professor at the Mount Royal University department of Health and Physical Education, David Legg is an engaging lecturer and supports his students in finding practical experience working with individuals with disabilities in adapted sport. He has devoted his life as a volunteer in sport for athletes with a disability at the provincial, national and international level, from officiating to coaching administration and team leadership with Wheelchair Sport Alberta, the Canadian Paralympic and International Paralympic Committees. He is the founder and lead organizer of the Calgary and Area Para Sport and recreation collective and has helped found the Children’s Adapted Physical Activity program. His impact on sport goes beyond the Paralympic realm as he has served as coach for multiple teams in Cochrane, hosted a variety of events and served on two team Alberta Mission staffs 2007 winter games and the 2003 Western Canada Summer games. His outstanding honors include the 2011 Gary McPherson Leadership award, 2012 Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, 2017 Canada 150 award for Community Service and the 2018 Governor General of Canada’s Sovereign’s medal for Volunteers. He also was a Torchbearer in the 2010 Paralympic Torch-relay and in 1997 was awarded the Alberta Wheelchair Sports Association Dr Robert Steadward Award.
