Mark Stephen

Bell Memorial Award- Inducted 2023

Mark Stephen's voice is known to many as one of the voices of the Calgary Stampeders. Since 1996 Stephen has done play by play of Calgary Stampeder games with former Stampeder Greg Peterson to form the longest serving broadcast tandem in CFL history.

Prior to joining the team at the Calgary Stampeders, Mark shared his incredible talents as the public address announcer and radio play by play for the University of Calgary Diono’s Mens Basketball team, and providing play by play for the Western Hockey Leagues Calgary Wranglers. As communication director for the Calgary Cannons, Stephen was responsible for promoting the team, producing top-quality yearbooks, programs and game day press releases on top of play-by-play announcing. He also broadcast Calgary Roughnecks for Shaw TV, as well as various Calgary City High School Athletic Association games.

As the voice of the Calgary Stampeders, with CHQR Radio, Mark has regaled fans with informative up to date sports and highly descriptive play by plays and half time commentary for more than three decades. He was fortunate to be the national broadcaster for four Grey Cup games, including two championships for Stamps.

Mark has been inducted into the Canadian Football League Hall of Fame in the Football Reporters of Canada division in 2013. He was awarded the Media Person of the Year Award in 2018 by the Alberta Schools Athletic Association, and was the recipient of the 2019 Calgary Booster Club Media Recognition Award.
