Brian McKeever

Para Nordiq Athlete- Inducted 2025

Brian McKeever, born on June 18, 1979, is Canada's most decorated Winter Paralympian. Diagnosed with Stargardt's disease at 19, leading to legal blindness, Brian did not let this deter his athletic pursuits. He began skiing competitively at age 11, quickly showcasing his talent by winning two gold medals at the Alberta Winter Games. At 15, he represented Canada at the World Junior Championships, the youngest competitor in cross-country skiing at the event.

Brian's Paralympic career is nothing short of legendary. From the 2002 Salt Lake City Games to the 2022 Beijing Games, he accumulated a total of 20 Paralympic medals: 16 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze. His dominance in both cross-country skiing and biathlon events has set new standards of excellence. Notably, Brian made history by being named to both the Olympic and Paralympic teams in 2010, although he did not compete in the Olympics due to team decisions.

Transitioning from athlete to coach in 2022, Brian became the Head Coach of Canada's Para Nordic Ski Team. His commitment to the sport continues as he mentors the next generation of athletes, ensuring Canada's legacy in Para Nordic skiing remains strong.
