Cathy King

Curling Athlete- Special Legends Class of 2025

Born in Manitoba and raised in Alberta, Cathy King began curling at age 11, following in her family’s footsteps. Two of her four brothers were Canadian Junior champions, and her twin brother won the 4-West Collegiate Championship while attending NAIT.

Cathy’s curling career includes skipping back-to-back provincial women’s championships in 1977 and 1978, before the establishment of a Junior Worlds championship. She also threw final stones for six Provincial Women’s championship teams (1995, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2005, 2006), winning the Scott Tournament of Hearts National Championship in 1998 and finishing as runner-up in 1995 and 1999.

She later skipped three Provincial Senior Women’s teams (2012, 2016, 2017), winning the Canadian Senior Women’s Championship in 2012 and the World Senior Championship in 2013. Over her career, Cathy has competed in 13 national championships for Alberta and one as Team Canada, making her the only curler—male or female—to win Canadian titles in Junior, Women’s/Men’s, and Senior competition. She has been inducted into both the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame.

Cathy raised three sons to adulthood and is now married to Bruce Saville, a Northern Alberta Business Hall of Fame inductee. She resides in Edmonton.
