Gail Lee
Curling & Golf Athlete - Special Legends Class of 2025
Born and raised in Edmonton, Gail Lee was a provincial and national champion in both curling and golf.
Her curling career began in 1961 with a win at the Alberta Schoolgirls Championship, playing alongside her sister Jackie. In 1966, Gail captured the provincial and national titles as skip of a rink that included her mother, Hazel Jamison, and sister June. While six months pregnant, she led her team to a perfect 9-0 record, winning the Canadian Diamond D Curling Championship – Alberta’s first-ever national women’s curling title.
Two years later, Lee and Jamison switched positions to capture their second provincial and national crowns, this time with her sisters June and Jackie on the team. Both national victories in the Canadian Diamond D – now known as the Scotties Tournament of Hearts – were especially memorable as true family affairs.
Lee also won the 1973 Alberta Mixed Curling Championship and skipped Alberta to a runner-up finish at the Canadian Women’s Curling Championship.
On the golf course, she won the Alberta Junior Girls Championship in 1959 and 1960, and decades later was part of Team Alberta’s winning squad at the 2001 Canadian Senior Women’s Interprovincial Golf Championship.
