Dennis Allen

Multisport Builder - Lethbridge

Class of 2026

Dennis Allen is one of Alberta’s most influential sport builders, dedicating more than three decades to developing athletes, strengthening communities, and growing the provincial sport system.

An accomplished athlete himself, Dennis competed in many sports during his youth, including hockey with the Lethbridge Sugar Kings. He was a member of the Lethbridge North Star fastball team (1963–1965), later inducted into the Softball Alberta Hall of Fame (2003) and the Lethbridge Sports Hall of Fame (2007).

Dennis’s impact as a builder began in 1986 when he served as Chair of the Alberta Winter Games in Edson. His leadership earned him recognition as Edson’s Citizen of the Year and led to his appointment as Alberta Games Director with the Alberta Sport Council. Over the next 29 years, he became the driving force behind the Alberta Games program, serving as Director of Marketing and Alberta Games from 1986 to 2015.

Under his leadership, the Alberta Games expanded significantly, supporting thousands of young athletes across Alberta. Each host of an Alberta Games benefited from upgraded sport facilities, trained volunteers, and lasting economic impact.

Dennis also played a key role in strengthening Alberta’s sport system through corporate sponsorship development, securing funding not only for the Alberta Games but also for provincial sport initiatives such as the Development Initiatives Program and the Alberta Future Leaders Program. These programs supported Provincial Sport Organizations and expanded sport opportunities for First Nation and Metis communities.

In 1994, Dennis added involvement on the Board of Directors of the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum to his portfolio. He assisted in fundraising and overseeing the construction of the Hall of Fame’s permanent facility in Red Deer, which opened in 2000. He served as a director from 1994 to 2019 and as Chair from 2013 to 2018, providing steady leadership and long-term vision for the organization.

Dennis Allen’s legacy is defined by leadership, partnership building, and an unwavering commitment to sport in Alberta. His work has impacted generations of athletes and strengthened communities across the province, making him a true builder in Alberta sport.
