Elizabeth Carruthers was a gold medal winner in diving at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, Columbia. In 1971 at an international meet in Riga, USSR, she was awarded the highest point total for any woman diver for a ten dive competition anywhere in the world. She also earned a gold medal in the South African International Cup. Elizabeth Carruthers competed with distinction in West Germany in 1971 winning a gold medal and placed second in the Fort Lauderdale International Invitations.
