Duane Daines
Rodeo Athlete - Inducted 2003
Duane Daines was four years old when his father sat him on his first horse and handed Duane the reins on the ranch in Innisfail. Duane's determination, tireless work ethic, and natural abilities resulted in a 17-year professional rodeo career that produced 13 Canadian Finals Rodeo appearances and nine National Finals Rodeo appearances.
Duane's belief that a true cowboy was one that could ride and rope helped him capture three Canadian All-Round Championships. As a result of his proficiency in Saddle Bronc Riding and Calf Roping, he had major wins all across North America, including Houston, San Antonio, and Fort Worth. Duane was the first Canadian Saddle Bronc Rider to win the $50,000 Calgary Stampede title in 1990, and in 1991, he won the Canadian Saddle Bronc Championship.
Duane's 1995 Canadian Professional Rodeo Association Cowboy of the Year Award was the culmination of a great career that was cut short. An accident in the bucking chute during the 1995 season left Duane with a spinal cord injury. Since the 1995 accident, Duane has shown the same perseverance and positive attitude that made him a champion rodeo athlete, and he has become an inspiration to many within the rodeo circuit and beyond.
After Induction
The Duane Daines SB series was created for saddle bronc riders.
