John Ducey was called Edmonton's "Mr.. Baseball" in recognition of the support he gave to the game in Northern Alberta both as a participant and an administrator.  His active career spanned some 40 years, starting as a batboy in 1920 with Deacon White's Class B Edmonton Eskimos.  After a brief stint as a player he umpired both professionally and part-time throughout Western Canada from 1931 to 1946.  He then contributed to the organization of several different leagues in Western Canada while operating the Edmonton franchise through 1959.  Just prior to his death in 1983 he was among the first six men to be inducted into Canada's Baseball Hall of Fame.
