Dave Johnson is a proven leader and coach at the provincial, national and world levels of swimming competition. He has led his swimmers to more than 24 Canadian records and two World records. They have also earned three National team titles, numerous individual and relay Canadian titles, and 23 major international medals.


Dave Johnson has been a coach at every Olympic Games since 1976 and has coached at numerous World Championships, Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships since 1974. Elite swimmers included in his coaching roster are, World record holders Wendy Quirk and Peter Szmidt, 1982 Commonwealth Games gold, silver and bronze medalist and 1988 Olympic bronze medalist Keltie Duggan.

Dave Johnson coached at the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club, one of the top clubs in the country, and at the University of Alberta - where he was named Canadian Intercollegiate Athletic Union Coach of the Year (Women's Team) for 1989 and 1990.

Dave coached at multiple Olympic Games and was the Head Coach of the Canadian National Swim Team from 1993 to 2004. Since the 2006-2007 season, he has been the head coach of the Cascade Swim Club in Calgary. The swim club has become the fastest improving team in Canada and is the #1 Age Group program in the country. Dave was inducted into the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. Dave was a coach at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships in the Gold Coast, Australia.

  • 2006 - _ _ _ _ Dave is the Director of Swimming and Head Coach of the Cascade Swim Club in Calgary Alberta. The Cascade Swim Club are the Canadian Age Group National Champions.

  • 2012 - Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame inductee

  • 2013 - Dave is in his seventh season with the Cascade Swim Club in Calgary Alberta. The Cascade Swim Club are the Canadian Age Group National Champions.
