Reg McClellan played wheelchair basketball in Alberta from 1973 – 1988. He was one of the founding members of the Alberta Northern Lights Wheelchair Basketball program in 1976. This program has been the most successful wheelchair basketball club program in Canada for the past 25 years. Reg played with the Alberta Northern Lights from 1976 to 1988 and was their General Manager from 1987 – 1988.


Reg McClellan played on the Canadian National Team for 20 years and was the teams Most Valuable Player ten times. He played on six World Cup Championships teams and four Paralympic teams. Not only was he an athlete on the team, but he also coached the Canadian National team from 1983 – 1986. Reg coached the Alberta wheelchair basketball team to their first National Championship victory.


In 1988, Reg McClellan took on the position of the basketball Executive Director for the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association until 1994. He became the Executive Director of the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Association from 1994–1999. During this time he held the position of President of the IWBF Development Commission from 1989-1998.


Reg McClellan was inducted into the Canadian Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996 and has done more for the sport of wheelchair basketball at a provincial, national and international level than any other single individual.
