No matter what the sport or what needs to be done, Perky McCullough is always leading the way. Her commitment to sport as an athlete, volunteer, coach, committee member, director and fundraiser is unparalleled. She is a consummate volunteer whose contagious energy gets people of all ages involved with any event. Perky is a champion for the developing athlete ensuring that athletes have an opportunity to excel in their sport.

Some of the many sports that Perky has had an impact on are softball, hockey, golf and curling. She was instrumental in the formation of the sport of softball in the Peace Country area in the 1960's and 1970's, and helped to establish a junior golf program in Grande Prairie. She served three terms as President of the Alberta Ladies Curling Association and was instrumental in uniting the Provincial Men's and Women's curling organizations and forming the Alberta Curling Federation. Perky was also heavily involved in Grande Prairie's very successful hosting of the 1995 Canada Winter Games as the Director of Special Projects. Currently, Perky is the fundraising co-chair for the 2004 Royal Bank Hockey Cup.

Perky's involvement in sports has spanned many years. A few of the many highlights are: forming the first umpire's association in Grande Prairie, Director on the Alberta Sport Council, Chairman of the 1986 Alberta Senior Games, Team Alberta Mission Staff for the 1987 Canada Winter Games and the 1990 Arctic Winter Games, Chair of the Alberta Special Olympics Games in 1989, and Board member of the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation.

For her contributions, Perky has been awarded the City of Grande Prairie Volunteer of the Year Award in 1979 and 1983. Perky McCullough also received The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow Award for tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance and better understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the world.
