Peake, Russ – 1984

Russ Peake

CFCN Calgary

1984 Bell Memorial Award

In Russ Peake's twenty-eight years in broadcasting, fifteen at CFCN in Calgary, he covered almost every sporting event imaginable, and won awards for curling and rodeo reporting. He ensured that the grass roots competitor and recreational athlete was given a fair share of air time with programs such as Junior Sports Scoreboard and Face-Off Circle to present information on the minor sport scene. Russ Peake proudly took a page from Henry Viney's book in emphasizing that amateur athletics are an important facet of the total sport picture.
