2000 Bell Memorial Award


As sports director for CHAT TV & Radio, Bob Ridley spent a lifetime of covering and promoting amateur sports in Medicine Hat and surrounding area. Bob Ridley was also an integral part of the Medicine Hat Tigers Hockey Club of the Western Hockey League since the team's inception in 1970. He was President of the Medicine Hat Men's Fastball League for five years and was also a competitive rower and racquetball player. For the past 28 years prior to induction, Bob Ridley was the voice and play-by-play man for the Tigers, only missing one broadcast while doubling as the team bus driver.

Since Induction


After logging more than a million kilometres, Bob retired from driving the Medicine Hat Tigers bus at the end of the 2014/15 hockey season.  Since 1970, Bob has been the team's play-by-play announcer.  In 49 seasons, he has called more than 3,900 games during the regular season and playoffs.  The 2019/20 season will be Bob’s 50th Anniversary as the Tigers play-by-play announcer.

Bob was a co-MC at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquets in 2018 and 2019.

In June 2019 he was inducted into the Western Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and on July 21, 2019 he was inducted into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame.

2006 - WHL Distinguished Service Award

2007 - RTDNA Lifetime Achievement Award (Radio Television Directors News Awards)

2011 - RTDNA News Directors award

2012 - March 7, marked Bob's 3000th regular season game behind the microphone as the voice of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

2019 – Western Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame (June 6)

2019 – Induction – Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame (July 21)

TIGERS HONOUR BOB RIDLEY: MR. 3000

2013/2014 Hockey season marks Bob's 44th year of calling the Tiger's hockey games.

September 23, 2013 - The Medicine Hat Tigers will formally request Medicine Hat City Council to name the broadcast/media booth in the new regional event centre after legendary Tigers' play-by-play broadcaster, Bob Ridley.
