William “Billy” Rose

Curling Athlete - Inducted 1980

William "Billy" Rose was a true sportsman who put the community of Sedgewick on the map in 1946 when his curling team won the cherished MacDonald Brier Tankard. It was the first time that the Championship was broadcast nationally by the CBC. Hometown fans listened to the broadcast until 2:30 a.m. when Alberta beat Northern Ontario 8 to 6. The welcome home celebrations quickly turned from a planned and orderly agenda into a riotous party. "Billy" Rose had previously skipped the Alberta team at the 1936 MacDonald Brier.
