Father James Whelihan
Football, Track & Field Builder - Inducted 1985
Father James Whelihan was devoted to the development of sports for boys in Calgary for thirty-five years. He concentrated on coaching football, and track and field; training athletes for future Olympic teams, and senior and professional football leagues. His most famous football team was the 1946 West End Tornados who won the Western Canada Football Championship. Father James Whelihan’s athletes also won numerous provincial and local championships. He was chosen 1956 Sportsman of the Year by the Calgary Booster Club.
